Lasagna noodles: 12 noodles
Olive oil: 1 tablespoon
Onion, finely chopped: 1 medium
Garlic, minced: 3 cloves
Ground beef or ground chicken: 500 g (1 lb)
Tomato sauce: 3 cups
Tomato paste: 2 tablespoons
Dried Italian seasoning: 2 teaspoons
Salt: 1 teaspoon
Black pepper: ½ teaspoon
Ricotta cheese: 2 cups
Shredded mozzarella cheese: 3 cups
Grated Parmesan cheese: ½ cup
Egg: 1 large
Fresh basil or parsley, chopped: 2 tablespoons (optional)
Cook lasagna noodles in salted boiling water until just tender. Drain and set aside.
Heat olive oil in a skillet, cook onion until soft, add garlic, then brown the ground meat.
Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
Mix ricotta, 1½ cups mozzarella, Parmesan, egg, and herbs in a bowl.
Layer sauce, noodles, and cheese mixture in a baking dish, ending with sauce and remaining mozzarella.
Bake at 180°C (350°F) covered for 25 minutes, uncover and bake 15 minutes more. Rest before serving.
